More Democrats are concerned about former President Trump’s re-election than Republicans are concerned about President Biden’s chances of a second term, according to a new poll.
The poll found that 66% of Democrats are extremely afraid of Trump serving another term in the White House. According to the results From The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
Additionally, 11% of Democrats said they were somewhat afraid, and 22% said they were either not very afraid or not at all afraid of a Trump victory.
By contrast, about 49% of Republicans said they feared Biden’s reelection. 18% said they were somewhat afraid, and 32% said they were not very afraid or not at all afraid.
Biden and Trump became the presumptive nominees of their respective parties earlier this month and are moving quickly toward a rematch of their 2020 match next November. National polls show Trump with a narrow 1-point lead over Biden, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters polling average.
Most Republicans say they are satisfied or excited about Trump’s chances for a second term, with 59% saying they are very satisfied and 54% very excited.
Democrats are unlikely to say they are very excited about Biden’s chances of re-election. 40% of Democrats say they are very excited about Biden’s chances of being reelected, 30% say they are somewhat excited, and another 30% are not very excited or not very excited. I said no.
Half of Democrats are very satisfied with Biden’s reelection, 31% are somewhat satisfied and 19% are not very satisfied.
The poll, conducted Thursday through Monday among 1,282 adults nationwide, had a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
