Congressional Democrats are reportedly helpless and annoyed amid a flood of angry calls from their constituents who demand that they resist President Trump at every turn.
Lawmakers told Axios that angry constituents were ringing their phones from the hooks on demand that they resist better. Democrats feel that their constituents are too high and should understand that they are currently holding minority positions in Congress.
Some staff said they hadn't seen this many of the calls since inventive events such as the October 7 attack, the Brett Kavanaugh hearing and even the Trump bluff each proceedings.
Aaron Frichner, a spokesman for Rep. Don Bayer (D-Va.), said his office phone “has been ringing the hook since it opened yesterday morning without pause.”
On social media sites such as X and Bluesky, another aide said, “It's been illuminated by new resistance people who say all DEMs do 'do more'. “He said.
Rep. Mark Pokan (D-WI) said his office received the most calls in 12 years last Monday. Similarly, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) said, “I can't remember receiving these many calls.”
“People are tired of what's going on and want us to fight back,” McGovern said.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told the outlet that their members should flood Republicans with angry phone calls.
“What I think we need to do more is to hold Republicans accountable so that the calls we're getting are directed towards Republicans,” Blumenthal said.
Another House Democrat said his colleague at Capital Hill feels that an angry constituent is “calling the wrong people.”
“There's definitely been a tension that people felt like over the past few days. You're calling the wrong people. You're literally calling the wrong people,” Democrats said.
Democrats stressed that people should understand that there is little legislative power at this point, not just keeping votes or meetings in protest. The progressive group told Axios they plan to maintain the pressure until Democrats do something.
“Our members have a high energy, and this is not the last story of an office from everyday Americans who want us to fight harder to push back,” says Moveon spokesman Britt Jacovich said.
Indivisible spokesman Mary Small told Axios that her group has led more than 31,400 calls to U.S. Senators over the past two weeks and 4,000 members to members with nearly 4,000 people.
