Democrats increasingly worried about Biden’s ‘cratering’ fundraising: report

President Biden’s fundraising coffers are drying up fast as more big donors and Democratic Party officials continue to call for him to drop out of the race.

Politico reported that officials and activists who work with major Democratic donors say fundraising efforts for Biden are “collapsing.” Some donors have canceled fundraising events altogether, while others are saying they won’t give until Biden drops out of the race.

“This is a really big deal,” one source told Politico. “Now we should be doubling and tripling our goals for the fall, but they’re falling apart.”

Grassroots fundraising has also been affected by Biden’s disastrous debate defeat to former President Trump, according to sources, with one person telling the outlet they expect small donations to fall by as much as 25% by the end of July.

The flurry of donors reflects wavering support for Biden among Democrats in Congress. Several House Democrats have called on Biden to step down, and Vermont’s Peter Welch, the first Democratic senator to do so, did likewise on Wednesday.

A-list actor George Clooney, who hosted a Biden fundraiser three weeks ago that raised more than $30 million, also disassociated himself from Biden on Wednesday, saying the Biden he saw at the event was “the same guy” Americans saw in the debate with Trump.

“It saddens me to say this, but the Joe Biden I was with at a fundraiser three weeks ago was not the ‘big’ Joe Biden of 2010.” Clooney writes: “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020,” he said in a New York Times op-ed. “He was the same person we all witnessed at the debates.”

“We cannot win the election in November with this president. Not only that, we cannot win the House and we will lose the Senate. And this is not just my opinion, this is the opinion of every senator, congressman, governor that I have spoken to privately. Every single one of them, regardless of what they say publicly,” Clooney continued.

Hollywood star and Biden supporter Michael Douglas changes his stance on the president

Hollywood’s most liberal figures were quick to follow Clooney’s defection on Wednesday.

“I think that’s a valid point.” Michael Douglas responded in an essay Clooney wrote on Wednesday’s “The View.”

“I’m deeply, deeply concerned. It’s particularly difficult because the Democratic Party has a large contingent. They have a lot of big names,” Douglas said, suggesting Biden’s decision ahead of last month’s presidential debate was unwise.

Actress Mia Farrow similarly warned in a post on X that “it’s time to pass the baton” or “we stand to lose the Senate, the House and our democracy.”

“disease [sic] “If Joe refuses to step down, vote for him. Absolutely. But he’s losing,” Farrow said. “We can never surrender our country to Trump.”
