A new report says President Biden's disappearance last Friday while negotiations continued over a spending bill to fund the government is just fine for Democrats.
“Biden has been conspicuously absent outside of brief statements issued by his press secretary, and Democrats say there has been little call for his return so far,” Politico said. reported Thursday, the day after Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump rejected the first bipartisan spending bill.
The article notes that despite the desperation to avert a government shutdown, “no one seemed to be looking to Biden for answers, and the lame-duck president showed no desire to provide them.” ” he said.
California Democratic Rep. Mark Takano told Politico, “I haven't received any messages from President Biden, I haven't heard anything about his remarks.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not say he had been in contact with Biden, only that he had been in touch with him. “We are in close contact with the administration.”

As Politico notes, “Democrats appear to be largely okay with Biden taking a backseat.”
At a House Democratic caucus meeting, “Mr. Biden's own views on the impasse were not considered,” and instead members “sternly referred to Mr. Musk as 'President Musk.'”
Biden supporters argued that the silence was a “strategic decision” to put Trump in a position to “take responsibility for the government shutdown and cause political damage even before he took office.”
Still, Politico reported that Democrats have only spoken to White House staff during this time and there is no confirmation that they have had any direct connections to the current president.

Biden had spent all of Wednesday at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, as the White House called for a lid on it after the bipartisan bill failed. He remained there Thursday, remaining silent and not making any public schedules.
“The president’s absence underscores an uncomfortable reality that has become clear since the November election, according to people in both parties: Biden is still formally running the country, but now Trump is running the country. Mr. Musk, and increasingly Mr. Musk, are the true captains,” Politico said.[T}hepresident'sabsenceunderscoresajarringrealitythatofficialsinbothpartiessaidhasbecomeclearsincetheNovemberelection:WhileBidentechnicallystillrunsthecountryTrump—andincreasinglyMusk—aretherealcaptainsnow”Politicosaid[T}hepresident’sabsenceunderscoresajarringrealitythatofficialsinbothpartiessaidhasbecomeclearsincetheNovemberelection:WhileBidentechnicallystillrunsthecountryTrump—andincreasinglyMusk—aretherealcaptainsnow”Politicosaid

Politico's report echoes a bombshell Wall Street Journal report that revealed that some of Biden's staffers noticed his decline in physical fitness as far back as 2021, during the first months of his presidency. It continued.
