Democrats may waste their midterm victory if they lose focus after the election

Former officials come together to caution about the threat China poses to the United States

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Democrats could waste a strong showing in the midterm elections if they fail to focus on the concerns voters care about most.

Speaking with “Pivot” co-hosts Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway at a live Election Night event, Clinton predicted Democrats would win both chambers of Congress.

“I think we’re going to wake up to a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate,” she said.

Galloway said he shared her prediction, but cautioned that any gains might not last unless Democrats respond to voters’ priorities. He described a potential win as temporary, saying it would reflect voters being less opposed to Democrats rather than enthusiastic about them.

Clinton agreed that Democrats would need a clear agenda and the discipline to carry it out if they hoped to retain support and compete successfully in 2028.

She suggested putting affordability at the top of that agenda, including addressing health care costs, speeding up housing construction and easing the burden of fossil fuel costs on consumers. She also called for an anti-corruption effort, saying ordinary Americans should not be paying the price while others benefit.

Clinton’s third priority was investigating the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, and its effects. She said questions remained about what data may have been taken, including Social Security and Medicare information, and how it was being used.
