The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 passed a House vote on Wednesday, with Democratic lawmakers furious over the bill's passage.
Congressman Greg Steube (R-Fla.) Bill passed It passed the House by a vote of 218-206, aiming to prevent male athletes from participating in women's sports in schools.
Democrats took serious issue with the bill, saying it would not only be unfair to “transgender girls” but would also result in “genital examinations” of girls.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York went on a rant, claiming that “women are bleeding in parking lots across the country” because they can't access abortions.
”[Republicans] Today they want to pretend they care about women while we stand there and let them die,” she continued.
Ocasio-Cortez also said the bill would result in “genital examinations of young girls in the name of attacking so-called transgender girls.”
“Transgirls are girls,” the New York Democrat continued. “I don't know who's been to gym class these days, but girls, I've always played co-ed sports, even though I believe there are only two genders,” she explained. .

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) proudly voted against the bill, saying Americans need to be educated “on the facts” and how there are transgender athletes in college athletics. I pointed out how little it was.
This is a reference to NCAA President Charlie Baker, who stated this fact when faced with Congressional questions on the issue in December.
Jayapal said the law could “harm all girls” and argued that gender testing would be “invasive and impossible to implement.”

Other Democrats further pushed the idea of genital testing as the primary method for determining biological sex.
“The obsession with monitoring children's genitals is completely problematic,” said Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vermont). “This is asking people to show what's underneath their underwear. That's what we're talking about.”
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) said the bill “empowers pedophiles and predators.”
Andrea Salinas (D-Ore.) also argued that female athletes would be subjected to “genital examinations.”
Of course, there are ways to determine gender that are far less intrusive than a physical exam.
As tennis legend Martina Navratilova has long stated, a cheek swab is the least intrusive way to determine gender.
