During an event with Breitbart News, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated that Democrats need to start challenging their far-left activist group, suggesting they are currently “feeding” it.
Zeldin highlighted the election of Democratic radicals, including incoming New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani and incoming Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones, and questioned Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) decision to shut down the government.
He suggested that Schumer “was there to feed the far left of the party because he lacked the courage or will to lead against it.” Zeldin explained, “Senate Democrats were guided by it, yet he shuts down the government, creating unrealistic expectations.” Schumer, he said, knows that he and his colleagues can’t meet those expectations.
“Now that the government is open following a lengthy shutdown, the left aren’t applauding Schumer; instead, they react as if they’re saying, ‘You need to go.’ This is a result of the expectations he has set,” Zeldin remarked, referencing Democrats’ push for $1.5 trillion in funding.
He emphasized that “Democratic leaders must speak out regarding their values, principles, ethics, and beliefs,” making it clear that they need to confront the activist segment of their base.
Zeldin warned, “Any leader of the Democratic Party needs to start questioning the activist base, as they are allowing it to dominate and destabilize the party.” He added that this is a perilous path, despite recent controversial statements made by Jay Jones, like wanting to see political opponents shot. Zeldin noted that the Democrats chose to support Jones even after he made these remarks, which he stated followed the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
