Democrats plan to help Republican lawmakers and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) avoid a government shutdown in exchange for $3.3 billion to accelerate an influx of immigrants that would cut wages and drive up rents.
Regarding the price of immigration, Democratic Representative Katherine Clark (Massachusetts) said: politiko:
we want him [McCarthy] to keep the agreement he made [with President Biden].I want to deliver disaster relief [for migration]. We want to continue our support to Ukraine. And we want them to end this sham impeachment inquiry.
“Disaster relief” refers to the spending request that President Joe Biden sent in August. The request includes $3.3 billion to provide transportation and welfare to millions of immigrants who Biden’s lawmakers have invited to take American jobs and housing.

The package also includes an additional $24 billion to help Ukraine fight the war against Russia despite the huge death toll and risk of nuclear escalation. This war is strongly supported by US economic interests hoping to profit from post-war Ukraine.
Mr. Clark on Thursday said he had no influence to push for immigration funds after a small number of House Republicans blocked Mr. McCarthy’s efforts to pass a spending bill by Sept. 30, the end of the government’s fiscal year. I believe there is.
If the deadline is missed, the government must stop spending. And Democrats can use their media allies to blame Republicans for the chaos.
Democrats are also trying to win over a handful of Republican votes and push their pro-immigration spending plan out of the House through a removal petition.
That discharge petition plan is likely to include most of Clark’s priorities, including funding for additional immigration.
So far, two Republicans from New York have been elected, Mark Molinaro and Mike Lawler. suggests They may join the Democratic Party. Lawler’s district leans Democratic, and he signaled in March that he would support an immigration amnesty that would provide more workers and renters for investors in the state.
expenditure politics
The House and Senate failed to pass spending bills for most of the 12-bill package that funds myriad spending programs for federal agencies.
Mr. McCarthy spent much of this week pushing through a stopgap “continuing resolution” (CR) that would continue most spending policies. Establishment From December 2022 to January 2024.
However, this CR plan was blocked by a small group of conservative Republicans. I voted no.
Republican groups urged McCarthy to restore the traditional method of debating and voting on each of the 12 spending bills. These 12 bills include spending for defense, education, and other categories.
Conservatives include Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado), and Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.). ) was included.
Small-government Republicans favor a traditional bill-by-bill approach called the “regular order.”
This approach reduces the ability of Congressional leaders of both parties to sneak unpopular and pro-establishment spending priorities into lengthy last-minute spending bills. The contents of the CR are kept secret by leaders, and the bill will not be made public until hours before the September 30 deadline.

In the resulting battle, McCarthy tried to get conservatives to support his CR by adding to his list of popular and effective immigration control measures. On September 18th, Breitbart News reported that the package would include:
- Prevent federal funds from being used to transport illegal aliens into the interior of the United States
- Shutting down Biden’s CBP One app that was used to let people cross the border
- Block funding for Biden’s prosecutorial discretion policy for illegal aliens
- Blocking funding from mass release of border crossers awaiting asylum hearings
- Defund Biden’s parole pipeline
However, immigration restrictions were not included in the Senate’s draft CR, and the final CR measure was withdrawn when House and Senate leaders met in closed session to negotiate the differences between the two plans. It is highly likely that
Gates and his ally condemned CR strategy planned by McCarthy. Once CR was blocked, McCarthy “deliberately backed us to the wall on the spending bill and sent everyone home at 3 p.m. Thursday,” Gaetz said.
Gates also suggested that McCarthy: delay Discussion of an immigration spending bill to pressure Republican immigration hardliners to support a big CR.

McCarthy’s allies condemned Gates and his group.
Cliff Sims, a former White House aide to former President Donald Trump, said, “Conservatives who really understand what’s going on here don’t know what Gates is saying to the Senate and the White House on actual border security measures.” “We know that we have thwarted the greatest opportunity in decades to exert influence in the United States.” Breitbart News.
“Some of our most conservative members have developed a package that includes most of HR2 in a continuing resolution. If it wasn’t for Gaetz, it would already be on Schumer’s desk right now. Now he says, “Oh, I’m all for that.” That’s why I want a single-issue spending bill. “That’s a message to the low-informed voters he’s trying to manipulate,” Sims continued. “The fact is that his conservative colleagues know that his antics have stopped any real momentum, and that’s why some of them are criticizing him. Conservatives We love fighters, but what we really love are fighters who are smart, strategic, and know how to win, which is why Trump’s approach always resonates so well. ”
“This mischaracterizes these people as conservatives,” said Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Said on Fox News. “Conservatives are overwhelmingly voting for Kevin McCarthy… [but] They’re voting Democratic,” he added.
John Feer, a former Trump administration immigration official, said the breakdown highlights the Republican Party’s painful divide between anti-immigrant voters and pro-immigration donors.
he told Breitbart News.
The problem is that Democrats have decided to fully support open borders and mass legal immigration by any means necessary. But Republicans still don’t know if it’s working with them. [pro-]It’s easier to choose between amnesty and President Trump’s “enforce immigration laws.” [for legislators] Rather than actually sit down and have a serious, substantive discussion about what we expect, it’s better to have a hearing and do nothing more than get a stomach ache and go home for a break. Sho.
“They’re not doing much,” he says, amid divided opinion among voters and donors.
