Democrats take steps to formally criticize GOP Rep. Cory Mills

Resolution Introduced Against Rep. Cory Mills

On Wednesday, Rep. Yvette Clark (D-N.Y.) presented a resolution targeting Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) due to allegations of harassment, assault, and dishonorable conduct. This move could prompt a vote in the House regarding the matter.

Mills has denied all the accusations leveled against him.

As the family gears up for a GOP-sponsored resolution, Clark, who leads the Congressional Black Caucus, has decided to push ahead with her proposal. While the home is formally responsible, her resolution does not call for any specific punishment against Mills. Recognizing its significance, she believes the House should consider this issue within two days.

The resolution outlines an incident involving a woman, initially described as close to Mills, who called the police related to a domestic disturbance in a Washington, D.C. building back in February.

This woman later reiterated her claims, though Mills staunchly contends there was no physical confrontation, and law enforcement did not proceed with an arrest at that time.

Reports indicate there are multiple police accounts regarding the event. An arrest warrant was prepared for Mills but was not signed and subsequently returned for further review, as noted by a local news outlet. Currently, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, now under former Fox News host Janine Pirro, is handling the case.

The Metropolitan Police Department stated they conducted an inquiry and forwarded their findings to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Communication shared with Hill revealed that Mills’ legal team was informed the investigation into the case had concluded.

The resolution also addresses another allegation involving Mills, stating he harassed a woman he previously dated in Florida by threatening to release private images after their relationship ended. Lindsey Langston, a contestant for Miss U.S. 2024 and a member of the Florida Republican State Commission, reported that Mills threatened to disseminate intimate photos and harm future partners she might date. A restraining order against him is currently pending, and the situation has been reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Additionally, Clark’s resolution mentions that the House Ethics Committee is investigating Mills concerning allegations he failed to disclose or misrepresented information in his financial disclosures, as well as potential mismanagement of contributions to his campaign fund.

Lastly, there have been serious accusations from service members about Mills’ military accolades, specifically questioning the legitimacy of his awarded Bronze Star. They claim that Mills’ involvement does not align with the criteria for such an honor.

Mills’ office has yet to respond to the resolution denouncing him.
