Democrats Try to Smear J.D. Vance as Antisemitic, Anti-Israel

Claim: J.D. Vance supports the “replacement theory” of anti-Semitism, votes against Israel, and does not oppose anti-Semitism.

Verdict: False. These are all lies spread by pro-Israel Democrats who lost the battle within their party.

A group calling itself “Democratic Majority for Israel” is trying unsuccessfully to keep the Democratic Party pro-Israel. The group responded to former President Donald Trump’s nomination of Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as vice presidential running mate by portraying him as an anti-Semite who does not support Israel. Their propaganda is now being shared on social media.

All of their claims are false.

  1. “Promoted the anti-Semitic ‘Great Replacement Theory’ that inspired the Tree of Life murderers.” There’s also the idea that Democrats support immigration because they believe that immigrants will ultimately vote Democratic if they get citizenship, but this is not an anti-Semitic theory, it’s a reasonable conclusion. There are crazy versions of this theory that are actually anti-Semitic, that claim that the immigration is the fault of “the Jews,” which is obviously not Vance’s idea.
  2. “I voted against aid to Israel after the October 7 terror attacks.” I can’t overstate how disingenuous this is. Vance actually Led Republican efforts in the Senate to support aid to Israel. He is adamant Supported Israel vs. Hamas. Voted Vance opposed one bill because it included aid to Ukraine, which some Republicans opposed on principled grounds. (He also promoted other bills to support Israel, which Democrats opposed for their own reasons.) Vance was careful to distinguish between Ukraine and Israel. And then he stepped into the lion’s den, so to speak, and speech An “isolationist” think tank that argues that the United States should support Israel.
  3. “He refused to co-sponsor a bipartisan bill to combat anti-Semitism.” Similarly, the fact that a member of Congress opposes a particular bill or supports it less enthusiastically than others does not mean that he or she opposes what the bill is trying to do. Democrats and Republicans have opposing approaches to anti-Semitism. Many Democrats (including Jews, such as Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY)) have Opposed The Republican anti-Semitism bill seeks to define extreme anti-Israel speech as anti-Semitic. Introduced A Senate bill that would force universities to remove anti-Semitic camps, opposed by many Democrats.

Additionally, many conservative Jews and pro-Israel activists also expressed joy at Vance’s selection on Monday.

It is one thing to criticize Vance’s approach to Israel and anti-Semitism for any reason, policy reasons, but it is quite another to pretend that he is anti-Semitic and anti-Israel when the record clearly shows that he is not.

The fact that Democrats have to resort to egregious distortions and outright lies to intimidate Vance into scare-off Jewish voters into voting Republican suggests they are pretty desperate and have very few ammunition at their disposal.
