Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) said Democrats were “turning a blind eye” to the Laken-Reilly Act and debated its failure in the Democratic-controlled Senate. Breitbart News Daily.
Marshall said the Laken Riley Act, named after 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley, who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant in February, was debated in the Senate, but Senate Democrats ultimately rejected it. He explained that he did.
“Democrats rejected this and it passed the House of Representatives. We don’t need to tell our listeners about the murder of Laken Riley,” Marshall said, adding that millions of illegal aliens have been blending into the United States under President Joe Biden’s administration. “And her assailant ends up in New York. He ends up being arrested there. They release him. He ends up in Georgia. They also have a warrant out against him for shoplifting. And what our law does is, if you’re in the country illegally and arrested for a crime, you have to be detained – not caught and released, but ICE exports you. Marshall said he went through the immigration process, which he described as 1.5 million people, but was told, “No, you have to leave.”
“So 1.5 million people, in addition to millions of fugitives and millions of parolees, and this is what’s happening. Mr. Laken Riley was brutally murdered and it’s just sad for the United States.” “Today,” the senator said, explaining that there are currently “many loopholes” that the Laken-Reilly Act would “strengthen.”
“I think there’s some degree of discretion. And I think the law is more focused on addressing violent crimes. So this means that if you’re arrested for any type of crime, you’re going to be in custody.” ” because the suspect in Riley’s murder had a warrant for shoplifting, he said.
Asked how the Senate was taking all of this, Marshall said it had been a “mediocre” response.
“I think they’ll say, ‘Well… there was a bigger immigration bill coming up. So you turned it down. So we’re not going to help you on this issue.’ We’re turning a blind eye to that,” Marshall said, adding that the goal is to get more people to cross the border.

“Their goal is to grease the slide so that as many people as possible can cross the border. This doesn’t fit into that narrative. So until we open the floodgates, they will continue to move in that direction. They’re going to keep pushing back. They’re not going to do anything to protect the border. Still, I don’t know if they’re serious,” he added.
