Protests Planned Outside Ed Sheeran’s Concert at Gillette Stadium
Protests are set to take place outside Ed Sheeran’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Philadelphia this Saturday. This comes after the rapper Macklemore faced backlash for his remarks accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians, resulting in his withdrawal from the concert lineup.
Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, reportedly intervened to prevent Macklemore from joining Sheeran’s performance following his controversial comments regarding the Gaza conflict. Subsequently, several notable artists who were scheduled for the concert also chose to drop out. As reported, protests are expected to continue at the same venue this weekend.
Another demonstration is planned outside Sheeran’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, where billionaire Robert Kraft is said to have played a role in having Macklemore removed from the event.
The Massachusetts Peace Action, an organization dedicated to addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict, is sponsoring this demonstration nearby Gillette Stadium ahead of Sheeran’s second performance there this weekend, which will also occur on Friday.
The group explained that the upcoming protest is part of a broader mobilization effort entitled Stop the Madness. They emphasized that the protest will focus on issues like “billionaire censorship” and the “genocide in Palestine.”
According to organizers, the controversy surrounding Sheeran and Macklemore underscores a significant concern about the influence of wealthy individuals and institutions in shaping both political discourse and the parameters of public debate.
In a statement issued last week, Robert Kraft clarified that the reason for blocking Macklemore’s participation was due to his sharing of what he described as “deeply offensive” statements and imagery that were “hurtful to the Jewish community.”
Kraft expressed that this decision was not intended to diminish the suffering of innocent Palestinians or to deny their right to advocate for themselves. He acknowledged the real pain and loss experienced by Palestinians, but insisted that advocacy should not come at the expense of the Jewish community, pointing out the responsibilities of Hamas, which is recognized by both the United States and other countries as a terrorist organization, and its role in causing suffering on both sides.
