Dems’ Biden Replacement Scheme Is ‘Undemocratic’

Democrats trying to replace leading Democratic candidate Joe Biden are subverting the democratic principles they claim to stand for, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Rubio blasted Democrats, contrasting their chaos with unity within the Republican Party amid growing reports that leading Democrats are pressuring Biden to drop out of his reelection campaign amid growing concerns that Biden may not be able to beat President Donald Trump.

“What they’re doing is very undemocratic,” Rubio told Washington bureau chief Matt Boyle. “They’re supposed to be the defenders of democracy. And the voters, the primary voters, chose Joe Biden. I’m not a Democratic primary voter, but he’s the one they chose.”

Rubio explained his concerns about the plan and why they should be shared by all Americans, regardless of party affiliation:

“Now we have Democratic elites parachuting in to try to convince him to drop out of the race, to subvert the will of the primary. Why? Why have a Democratic primary in the first place? That’s the first point. Second, if they tell themselves that Joe Biden doesn’t have the mental acuity to do this as a candidate and they eliminate him, then how can he be president? They have to eliminate him as president as well. So the third point, which is, do I need to ask you guys, why don’t you know this when you work closer with him than I do?”

He continued, “This was a conspiracy of lies, in collusion with the mainstream media, to hide the true state of the president from the American people. And it was a downfall. And now they’ve been caught because it was exposed in the debates. So they need to explain why they covered it up. And if you’re going to remove them from the running, why don’t you press for them to be removed from the presidency? Because if he can’t run, you don’t have the power to run, how can he still run this country?”

“The final question is, who is running this country? Is there a shadow government that we don’t know the name of and can’t hold accountable? It appears that there is,” he said.

Boyle asked Rubio whether Biden would be removed from office if he dropped out of his reelection campaign.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do,” Rubio said. “I mean, these guys are capable of anything. Republicans aren’t going to fight over that stuff there. They’re all going to comply. You’ve seen them comply. So I don’t know what they’re going to do. But it’s a question that has to be asked.”

Rubio said Kamala Harris should run as the top candidate if Biden were to leave office.

“It has to be Kamala Harris,” he argued. “I made her vice president because it meant, ‘I think she deserves to be president.’ Can I remove her now? If so, it’s going to be her.”

The Florida senator highlighted the differences between Biden and Harris’ records.

“The difference between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden is that Joe Biden is the poster child for this radical left, and she’s a member of the radical left, and she’s voted for the craziest ideas of the radical left, like the Green New Deal, single-payer health care, government-run health care for everyone, yours,” he told Boyle. “She didn’t just support them. She voted for them. She’s a co-sponsor of them. So, for all the radical left ideas, we’re going to have the most radical left presidential candidate in American history. And I think we’re going to win.”

Boyle asked Rubio about the deeper meaning of the plan to remove Biden from the running and what it means for his continued presidency. Rubio responded, “But now they know what a mess they’re in. They knew what was going on with Biden and they covered it up, they lied about it and they propped him up because it was convenient. If you’re the radical left wing of that administration, this guy is perfect. He’s a poster child. You put them out there and you pretend he’s the president.”

“Meanwhile, you’re running a country. You’re putting out policy and he’s just a vehicle to get it done. And they were happy with that. They loved the arrangement, until they realized, ‘Hey, people are noticing, we’ve got to get rid of him.'”

“They have earned their position but at great cost to the country. If they are hiding something so important, what else are they hiding and lying about? Can we trust them in anything going forward?” he asked.

Boyle asked whether it would be beneficial to set up an investigative body similar to the Watergate Committee.

“That’s an interesting question. Not as long as they have a majority in the Senate,” Rubio responded. “We’re not going to see that.”

But Rubio delved into the broader threats posed by the plan, particularly its impact on national security.

“How did the president’s decline get to a point where it was so rapid and so obvious to everyone, including his opponents,” he said. “My first thought on the night of the debate was, ‘Oh, they saw us in Beijing. They saw this in Moscow. They saw us in Tehran.’ That was my first thought.”

“So I think we need to understand why the intellectual acuity of the president has declined so rapidly. And we have people in the United States government who have not only covered it up, but who have attacked anyone who questions it, and even attacked anyone who actually questions it,” he continued.

Rubio contrasted the chaos within the Democratic Party with the unity shown in Milwaukee.

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen this level of unity before, and I don’t think this unity is fake unity like you get in politics,” he said. “This is real unity, and unity exists.”

Rubio praised the direction of the Republican Party under Donald Trump and highlighted the various elements that have found a new home within the party. He said, “I’m excited that the Republican Party is now home to Americans. One of the most amazing things I’ve seen is the growth of Hispanic voters. I’m always asked, what does it mean to be Hispanic? I say, I think Hispanics are Americans. And they vote like Americans. So you know what Hispanics want? They want higher salaries, cheaper prices, safe cities, they want immigration laws to be enforced. They want their country to be respected and strong. They want their kids to go to schools where they’re taught, not indoctrinated. They act like Americans. Sure, they may listen to Spanish music, but they’re Americans.”

Rubio ended with a stark contrast between the growth of the Republican Party and the identity politics still being played by the Democratic Party: “And I love the fact that this party isn’t pandering. This party is growing because it’s speaking to people as Americans. And that, to me, is what’s most gratifying.”

“I believe this is the first time in modern political history that a candidate has been able to build a broad base of support among Americans by appealing to them as Americans, not just because of the color of their skin or their ethnicity. This is one of the most exciting developments in American politics in the last quarter century,” Rubio concluded.
