Shortly after the bill was introduced, Democrats were quick to criticize a new Republican bill that aims to consolidate resources for pregnant women, postpartum women and young mothers on a government website. They claimed this was a covert attempt to build a “database of pregnant women” that would allow the government to block access to abortion.
The Moms More Opportunities to Succeed Act, or MOMS Act, was introduced by Alabama Republican Sen. Katie Britt, who made headlines in response to the State of the Union address earlier this year. The MOMS Act establishes pregnant.gov, a government-run website intended to be a go-to resource for mothers and pregnant women seeking support through the various stages of pregnancy and early childbirth.
There is now a government website, ReproductionRights.gov, that provides resources on abortion. The site directs women to AbortionFinder.org and tells visitors they can help them obtain “abortion funding.” The site provides information about abortion rights, legal assistance, and directs you to the Department of Justice’s Reproductive Rights Task Force.

According to the bill, Pregnancy.gov would be a “clearinghouse for relevant resources available to pregnant and postpartum women and women raising young children.” The site asks for a woman’s zip code in order to find local resources and enter information on her behalf. This further includes “mechanisms for users to take evaluations through the website and consent to the use of their contact information. [Department of Health and Human Services secretary] We may use it to conduct outreach via phone or email to follow up with you about additional resources that you may find helpful. ”
Democratic National Committee Chairman Jamie Harrison told “That’s what I mean,” he said, criticizing the proposal.
“Another example of why this election is fundamental to protecting your liberties and freedoms!” he added.

Democratic lawmakers also echoed the DNC chairman’s assertions. Senate President Patty Murray, D-Wash., wrote in X that the bill is a “dystopian proposal to track, intimidate and force pregnant women to carry their pregnancies to term regardless of their circumstances.”
“It’s a dangerous roadmap for how Republicans will weaponize government to control women’s bodies,” she argued.
Rep. Dan Goldman of New York attacked the bill as “horrendous” and also cited the crisis, saying, “R. is already escalating authoritarian repression of reproductive freedom and the pregnancy database and funding anti-abortion centers.” Pregnancy centers may be eligible for grants under this measure.
Crisis pregnancy centers are usually organizations that provide emotional and financial support, especially to women. These centers are known for encouraging women to seek alternatives to abortion and often providing support for women to do so.
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) made a similar argument, calling the bill “hypocritical” since many Republicans oppose a “national firearms registry.”

“Democrats’ desperate smear campaign against the MOMS Act is shameful, but not surprising,” Britt told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“Instead of participating in common-sense solutions that help vulnerable women, children, and families, some on the left clearly intended this as a blind partisan attempt to stoke fear and demonize political opponents. “It appears that they are trying to spread false and false information,” she said.
The bill was co-sponsored by Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas), Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Mississippi, and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas). ), co-sponsored by Sen. Thom Tillis (Republican). , Eric Schmidt (R-Missouri), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Mike Rounds (R.S.D.), Roger Wicker (R-Mich.), James Lankford (R-Okla.) ).
An investigation by Fox News Digital found that nowhere in the text of the bill is there any language authorizing the creation of a so-called “database” on pregnant women. Also, since the site claims to provide resources for postpartum women and mothers with young children, it does not explicitly state that women must disclose whether they are pregnant.
Schumer could quietly lapse controversial Biden candidacy over ‘problematic’ relationship: expert
According to the text of the law, there is no coercive element requiring women to access the site or provide their postal code, email or phone number, as the concept of a pregnancy database might suggest.

Britt defended his bill, the MOMS Act.
Even if Britt’s measure becomes law, it would not be the first government website to ask visitors for location or contact information. For example, Healthcare.gov asks visitors for their home state, email, and data consent to their policies before taking any other actions on the site.
Additionally, if the Secretary were tasked with preparing a report to Congress on the usefulness of a website under this proposal, it would specifically be prohibited from including “any personally identifying information about individuals who have used the website.” That will happen.
“These claims are intentionally false and dangerous,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, the head of the pro-life organization, told FOX News Digital in a statement.
“We encourage everyone to read this bill. Women, not a database of women. Women’s privacy is explicitly protected,” the statement continued.
“Any claims to the contrary are nothing more than a cynical attempt to distract from the Democratic Party’s obsession with abortion and relentless attacks on charities that help women,” SBA Pro-Life America said in a statement. About.

The bill would also provide resources to postpartum women and mothers with young children.

Advancing American Freedom, a group founded by former Vice President Mike Pence, also addressed the false claims being spread about the bill. AAF Policy Director John Shelton told Fox News Digital that “Senator Britt’s baseless slander against the MOMS Act has caused the abortion industry to back down.”
She continued: “Rather than ensuring that mothers who want to raise their children have access to pregnancy resource centers and child support, the family planning system ends up forcing mothers who want to have abortions.” ”, he said, pointing to a provision in the bill that would make child support available during pregnancy.
