Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said on MSNBC’s “The Andrea Mitchell Report” on Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris should be endorsed by Democrats “whether she’s No. 2 or No. 1.”
Discussing President Joe Biden’s future after his highly criticized debate performance, Mitchell said, “Congressman, how would you feel if he made the decision to step down? If he decided that and had to decide that, or if the party pressured him to do that, if they tried to sidestep Kamala Harris because of a lack of poll numbers or popularity or a broad base of support? Or would you feel that if it wasn’t his, it was hers?”
“I’ll support her even if Biden leaves office, but I plan to support her in the future. I hope the combination remains Biden-Harris. We’ll see what happens after the next election,” Clyburn said.
He added, “No, this is in no way alienating Harris. We should do everything in our power to support her whether she’s in second place or first.”
