Dennis Quaid Reflects on Political Shifts

Dennis Quaid recently shared his thoughts on political changes during an appearance on a podcast. At 71, he discussed the current political landscape and how it has shifted dramatically over the years.

In an exchange with host Greg Lowry, Quaid noted the extreme leftward movement in politics today. He recalled a conversation between Bill Maher and Dana Carvey, where Carvey mentioned the surprising backlash he faced from friends for identifying as a Clinton Democrat.

“It’s hard to adapt,” Quaid remarked, suggesting that being a Clinton Democrat now feels akin to being labeled as a neocon or right-wing, a position he can no longer identify with.

Quaid described himself as a “common sense independent” but admitted his thinking leans more conservative. “I’m just common sense and the real me,” he said, portraying a straightforward image about his beliefs.

When asked about his time with Donald Trump, he responded positively. “He’s very approachable and funny,” Quaid stated, emphasizing Trump’s honesty and connection with voters: “The people who voted for him know he has their best interests at heart.”

Expressing pride in his American identity, Quaid told Fox News Digital in July 2024 that he sees the U.S. as the greatest country despite its flaws. “We have to start believing in ourselves again,” he added, reflecting his faith in the collective wisdom of the American populace.

Quaid had the chance to portray Ronald Reagan in the film “Reagan,” which celebrates the 40th president. He described Reagan as his favored president and revealed feelings of apprehension about taking on such a well-known role, fearing public perception and the challenge of authentically depicting the iconic figure.

Visiting Reagan’s ranch in California, Quaid found inspiration and insight into the late president’s character, eventually deciding to accept the role, influenced by his understanding of the man behind the public persona.
