Dennis Quaid Teases ‘I Can Only Imagine 2’: ‘There’s a Demand for Faith-Based Movies’

Renowned actor Dennis Quaid has commented that viewers are eager for films that inspire hope and bravery, and he feels that his upcoming project will deliver just that. I Can Only Imagine embodies this sentiment.

The film, set to hit theaters on February 20th, explores another phase in the life of Mercy Me’s lead singer, Bart Millard. It captures his struggles with fatherhood while he seeks happiness amid his rising success. The dynamic shifts when new band member Tim Timmons joins their tour, infusing a long-missing sense of optimism into the group. Based on true events, this movie follows the 2018 success of I Can Only Imagine, both produced by Kingdom Story Company.

Quaid reprises his role as Millard’s father, appearing in flashbacks throughout this sequel.

In a conversation with Crosswalk Headlines, Quaid expressed a personal craving for such roles, noting that the themes resonate deeply with challenges he has faced in his own life.

This isn’t Quaid’s first venture into faith-based films; he has also starred in American Underdog and other Kingdom Story titles like On Wings and a Prayer and The Hill.

He acknowledged the film’s co-director, Andy Irwin, for addressing “untold truths and real-life questions” in a genuine manner.

He remarked, “Irwin tells these stories authentically without overwhelming the audience. He taps into that inner voice we all have, the one that grapples with important questions.”

John Michael Finley returns as Millard, with Trace Adkins reprising his role as the band’s manager. The film also features Milo Ventimiglia, Ariel Kebbell, and Sophie Skelton.

Initially hesitant about making a sequel, Irwin changed his mind after understanding the struggles Millard faced following his rise to fame.

He elaborated, “What do you do when the joy fades? When the lights dim and life hits hard? The story carries a hopeful message, which resonated with me. The introduction of Tim Timmons brings a new spiritual dimension for Bart.”

Irwin emphasized that gratitude is a central theme of the film.

According to him, “This movie revolves around Bart’s journey as a father, dealing with his own insecurities and reflecting on how he wasn’t prepared because his father never taught him. Ultimately, it’s about gratitude.”
