James Craig Found Guilty of Murdering His Wife
James Craig has been convicted of murdering his wife, Angela, by poisoning her protein shakes.
During a trial in 2023 in Denver, prosecutors alleged that Craig secretly added arsenic and cyanide to Angela’s drinks. This occurred shortly after he began dating Karen Cain, a woman he met at a dental conference following her divorce.
Evidence presented included a search query from February 2023, from an account created by Craig, which asked “how to make murder look like a heart attack.” Aurora Police detective Molly Harris revealed this during her testimony.
While Angela was visiting family in Utah, searches related to arsenic poisoning were traced back to Craig’s dental office. The affidavit indicated that an order for arsenic was delivered to their home just three days later.
When Angela returned from Utah, she felt “strange” after consuming a protein shake made by Craig. He took her to the hospital, where various tests were conducted. After she was discharged, Craig ordered oleandrin, which prosecutors linked to research on deadly plants.
A few days later, on March 8th, Craig purchased potassium cyanide, according to the affidavit.
Additionally, on the same day, he bought 12 packages of Visine eyedrops, which contain a harmful substance if ingested, using his credit card.
Angela returned to the hospital on March 9th due to severe symptoms after another protein shake, noted the prosecutor. By March 15th, Craig texted Angela’s sister about getting her a prescription for a sinus infection. Allegedly, he had tampered with the medication by replacing it with a cyanide dose he had received two days earlier. Angela was put on life support and was pronounced brain dead on March 18th.
Toxicology tests later confirmed that Angela died from fatal levels of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.
A jury found Craig guilty of first-degree murder and other charges, including several counts of solicitation related to tampering with evidence and perjury.
Detective Bobbi Olson, who led the investigation, was reportedly despised by Craig, who referred to her as “the worst, dirtiest detective in the world” in a note to an inmate.
Evidence revealed that Craig had offered a cellmate $20,000 to kill Olson and had plotted to have others falsely testify about Angela’s state of mind.
Moreover, Craig wrote a letter to his daughter, asking her to produce a video that would imply Angela wanted him to order toxic substances for a suicide attempt, including directives for a deepfake video.
As a result of these actions, James Craig has been sentenced to life in prison for his wife’s murder.
