For many of these illegal aliens, the main problem is that they are not legally allowed to work without a federally issued work permit, and without a job they cannot pay for themselves. It states that. A lack of jobs and the eviction of shelters has led hundreds of people to set up illegal tent encampments on public land. But even that, these days, like NPR reportthere are limits as sometimes the police clear them from the campsite.
In fact, some illegal aliens have boldly set up tents in protest of the city’s stalled shelter program.
One such protest encampment this week was spearheaded by a pro-Palestinian activist named V. Reeves, who insisted on the pronouns “they/them,” saying, “What comes out of the city and what comes out of the city. “There’s a lot of dissonance between what’s coming out,” he said. And what is the mayor saying and what is the reality of these people’s lives. ”
She added that there are “so many incredibly strong parallels” between illegal aliens in the United States and the “fight for a free Palestine.” Because “we face a common enemy in colonial structures that judge black and brown bodies as unjust.” They have the same value as the bodies of white European colonial settlers. ”

Jennifer Kettering, executive director of Hope Has No Borders, was amazed at the number of Denver residents who volunteered, saying, “The number of people who are open to this idea is significant.”
The group is reportedly giving homeowners stipends to help pay for utilities and other expenses, but it has not yet been reported how much those stipends are.
For those concerned about hosting strangers who are already violating U.S. law, Kettering added: “You know, some of the greatest things you do or have done involve some degree of risk.”
But it does seem like there could be some risk to homeowners. Hope Has No Borders does not say how, or even if, it vets the placement of illegal aliens in people’s homes. Additionally, the federal government often has no records of illegal aliens entering the country, so the group may simply rely on the stories of illegal aliens, whether or not they are true. do not have.
Conversely, some communities around Denver have gone the other way and begun changing city rules that prevent illegal aliens from entering their jurisdictions.
For example, the city council of the small town of Monument recently voted unanimously to formally identify the city as a non-sanctuary.
“The goal is for the city of Denver to understand that we will not accept immigrants on buses into our community,” Mayor Mitch LaKind said. “The main reason is that we don’t have the budget to match them, and they don’t use taxpayer funds to support what they have decided to take upon themselves as a self-declared sanctuary city. is.”
