Denver Officials Beg Landlords to House Migrants as Shelters Overflow

Authorities in Denver, Colorado, are pleading with local landowners to take in illegal immigrants as the sanctuary city’s shelters are filling up with all the “newcomers.”

Mayor Mike Johnston’s (D) office announced in an emergency declaration on February 28 that four of the city’s seven migrant hotel shelters would be closed by early April. announcementsaid people staying in those facilities would be “relocated.”

At the time, the city did not say specifically where the unhoused migrants would be moved.

Now, Denver Human Services is asking private property owners to address the overflow.

“We reached out to every landlord we had connections with,” said John Ewing, president of the department. Said Fox 31. “Basically, listen, we’re going to have some newcomers who need housing.”

“We have a rent cap, which is $2,000,” Ewing added.

The welfare official also said that the city has so far been able to grant work permits to 1,300 illegal immigrants.
