Denzel Washington Critiques Jerry Jones on ESPN
Hollywood star and lifelong Cowboys fan Denzel Washington didn’t hold back while discussing team owner Jerry Jones on ESPN’s “First Take.” Washington, alongside Spike Lee, was on the show to promote their new film, “Up to 2,” when the topic shifted to the Cowboys.
“I’ve been cheering for the Cowboys since the ’60s, but honestly, he makes it tough,” Washington said, referring to Jones. “I mean, I’ll still wear my star proudly, but it feels like he’s more focused on his profits than on the fans.”
Currently, the Cowboys are in the midst of some rather typical contract negotiations with standout player Micah Parsons, who has voiced his wish to explore other options due to ongoing stagnation in talks. It seems Jones has, perhaps inadvertently, made comments in the media that have not helped the situation.
The Cowboys faced a disappointing 2024 season, leading to an absence from the playoffs.
During the appearance, Washington passionately remarked, “It’s all about success, Jerry. You’ve never been in the game—you don’t understand… what it means to win.” He further expressed his love for the Cowboys, adding, “I really do love them, which is why I care so much.”
In a final jab at Jones, he paraphrased a famous line from one of his films. “All money isn’t good money, Jerry.”
It’s been quite a dry spell for the Cowboys—no Super Bowl titles since 1995, and they haven’t made it past the divisional round in many years. Though they made it to the playoffs for three straight seasons prior to last year, those appearances were far from memorable.
