Denzel Washington Dismisses Cancel Culture, Saying 'I Follow God, Not People'

Denzel Washington Speaks Against Cancellation Culture

Renowned actor Denzel Washington has openly opposed cancellation culture while expressing his deep faith. In a recent interview with Complex News, the two-time Oscar winner shared his thoughts on the matter.

When asked if he fears being canceled, Washington responded with a question of his own, “Will I be canceled?” His lively demeanor suggested he doesn’t take the notion too seriously.

Jillian Hardeman-Webb from Complex clarified that cancellation often means losing public support, to which Washington replied, “Who cares?” His indifference was evident as he continued, emphasizing that “followers are now currency.”

“I don’t worry about who is following who,” Washington stated, explaining that you cannot both lead and follow simultaneously. He added, “I will follow the spirit of heaven. I will follow God, I will not chase after man. I have faith in God. I have hope for man, but I look around and it doesn’t work very well.”

Washington’s openness about the subject seemed to affect him personally. He humorously remarked about his emotional state regarding cancellation, saying, “My heart hurts. You know, my breasts are talking tightly about it.”

This isn’t the first time Washington has highlighted his faith. Recently, he mentioned to Jake’s Take that award recognition holds little value for him. “I’m in this for the long haul; there have been times when I wasn’t expected to win,” he shared, adding that “God will reward you.”

During a church service last year in New York City, Washington publicly testified. “Glory to God,” he said, expressing his commitment, “Whatever I can do, I will for this church, for the almighty man.” He emphasized his desire to serve.

Best known for roles in films like Glory, Remember the Titans, and The Book of Eli, Washington’s faith is a core part of who he is. His passion resonates deeply with many, making him a significant voice for faith in the entertainment world.
