Denzel Washington Reveals The Shocking Scene Fans Won’t Get To See In ‘Gladiator II’

Denzel Washington shocked fans by revealing he shared a same-sex kiss in “Gladiator II.”

The legendary actor spoke with Gayety on Oct. 31 and was asked “how gay” the Roman Empire was. That prompted Washington to unexpectedly announce that he kissed another man while filming the highly anticipated movie. He made it clear that the moment did indeed happen, but went on to say the footage of the gay kiss won’t be seeing the light of day.

“I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out,” Washington told Gayety. As for the reason the scene didn’t make it past the final cut, Washington simply said, “I think they got chicken.”

Washington went on to explain how the series of events unfolded, and made it clear that the deleted scene showed far more than just a peck on another man’s cheek.

“I kissed a guy full on the lips and they — I guess they weren’t ready for that yet,” Washington said.

“I killed him about five minutes later,” he added.

“It’s ‘Gladiator.’ It’s the kiss of death,” Washington quipped as he reflected on the moment.

This isn’t the first time same-sex smooches were a hot topic on this particular movie set.

Paul Mescal previously told Entertainment Weekly about a moment he shared with costar Pedro Pascal during filming.

“There was a moment when we were rehearsing my fight scene with Pedro, and I had an idea towards the end of the scene to kiss Pedro on the forehead,” he told the publication.

“I did it in one of the takes, and then we’re getting the radio messages back to Ridley and I was like, ‘Ridley: Kiss on the forehead, did you like it? Yay or nay?’ There was radio silence for a second. His radio crackles back and goes ‘I’m afraid I did,’” he said.
