Derek Kerr really embraced his first day after retiring from the NFL.
His wife, Heather, shared a video showcasing how the 34-year-old spent his time after announcing his retirement following 11 seasons in the league.
In an Instagram clip, filmed in their yard, Heather captured Derek playing with their four kids before the couple headed out for a date.
As the video carried on, viewers saw him loading golf clubs into the truck.
“So, what’s next on your first day of retirement?” Heather asked, to which Derek, who has been in the league for nearly 13 years, replied, “I’m going on a tour.”
The family then sat down for dinner, after which Kerr tended to the garden and wrapped up his day at his computer.
“Complete your first day of retirement,” Heather remarked while catching a smiling Derek at his desk.
Derek’s retirement follows a shoulder injury he sustained early in the offseason. He opted for retirement rather than undergo surgery that would keep him off the field for the upcoming 2025 season.
“It’s tough to express the gratitude I feel towards my teammates, coaches, management, ownership, and especially the fans who have been an important part of this journey. Your support is invaluable to us,” he stated.
Derek Kerr began his NFL journey with the Raiders in 2014 and spent the last two years with the Saints.
A second-round pick in 2014, Kerr had a robust first nine years with the Raiders before signing a substantial four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints after being released in 2023.
Throughout his 169 games, he amassed 41,245 passing yards, 257 touchdowns, and 112 interceptions, maintaining a 65.1% completion rate.
Heather shared a heartfelt tribute to Derek on Instagram, celebrating his impressive career. She expressed pride in his achievements and emphasized that, despite the records and accolades, his roles as a husband and father were what truly mattered. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!” she shared enthusiastically.
