Derrick Henry’s Frustration After Loss to Lions
Derrick Henry was feeling pretty down on himself during a critical drive in the fourth quarter against the Lions on Monday night. With 8:31 left on the clock and the Ravens trailing 28-24, things took a turn.
Henry found himself tumbling onto the sidelines and, in sheer frustration, slammed his helmet against the stands. He returned to the bench visibly upset, hitting it with his fist.
As he took a moment to collect himself, he placed his hands on his head and pondered the situation—challenging Assistant Director Willie Taggart in the process.
This incident is part of what has been a rough start to the season for Henry. Historically reliable, he’s fumbled three times in just three weeks this season. That’s a stark contrast to the three fumbles he had over 652 touches in the previous 36 games.
In the season opener, his early errors contributed to a 41-40 loss against Baltimore, where those three early minutes of play set the stage for a momentum shift favoring the opposing team.
Henry recognized his shortcomings after the game, admitting, “I’ve started keeping it high and tight. It’s lacking.” He didn’t hesitate to place the blame for the loss squarely on his shoulders.
While it wasn’t a total repeat of past misfortunes, the Lions were able to capitalize on turnovers, which ultimately left the Ravens in a 31-24 predicament before they lost 38-30. This brings Baltimore’s record to 1-2.
Henry managed to rack up 50 rushing yards and scored a touchdown during the game, but it feels like nothing was truly in his grasp this time around.
