Derrick Johnson Shifts Focus to Education with New Children’s Book

After seven years since his last NFL game, former Kansas City Chiefs player Derrick Johnson is channeling his efforts into educating the youth of America. On Thursday, he released his first children’s book, driven by a desire to combat bullying—a troubling issue that he believes has had a serious negative effect on children recently.

In his perspective, he attributes some of this influence to a malevolent force, or what he describes as “the devil.” Johnson shared his thoughts in an interview, explaining, “The enemy loves to tell kids, ‘Hey, no one says anything, just internalize it.’ That’s a dangerous mindset.” He emphasizes his faith in Jesus Christ as a counter to these harmful influences.

Johnson believes that without proper mentorship, children can feel trapped, making it easier for negativity to seep in. He urged parents to instill Christian values in their children, stating that this foundation could help them maintain their identities in Christ. He remarked, “It doesn’t mean life will be perfect… but having the right tools makes a difference.”

He also expressed concerns about the pervasive influence of digital devices on kids today. “They often don’t realize what they’re looking at on their phones,” he said, adding that the distractions can pull them away from focusing on more constructive pursuits.

Having grown up as the son of a teacher, Johnson noted a noticeable decline in public education’s standard. “It’s getting worse, and that’s why I’m in this fight,” he said, referencing his mother’s extensive career in education. He feels that schools need more support to help students reach their potential.

Johnson’s new book, titled *Super DJ Saves Field Day*, is his way of contributing positively to American education. He is already considering a sequel and even more stories to follow.
