Celtics star Derrick White was hit in the head and his hat flew off during a fight behind the end zone during Saturday's college football game between Colorado and Colorado State, according to a video. TMZ Sports.
According to TMZ Sports, White, who was a key member of the Celtics team that won the NBA championship in June and also won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics last month, was in Fort Collins to support his alma mater, Colorado, when he and several Colorado State University fans got into an altercation.
Then, in the third quarter, a man wearing a Colorado State University hat attacked White.
As the violent pushing and charging continued, people stepped in to try and stop White and the fans.
According to TMZ Sports, the video does not show any further punches being thrown and no police report was filed.
White's Buffaloes defeated the Rams 28-9 to improve to 2-1.
The Parker, Colorado native spent three years at Division II Colorado Springs High School (UCCS) before playing one year with the Buffaloes from 2016-17.
The 30-year-old defensive anchor was selected by the Spurs in the first round (29th overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft.
He played five seasons with San Antonio before being traded to Boston in February 2022.
White was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team each of the past two seasons with the Celtics, averaging 15.2 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds last season.
White averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from the 3-point line in 19 playoff games en route to the championship.
His efforts earned him a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension with the Celtics over the summer.
