Florida law enforcement recently seized a boat carrying Haitians armed with guns, drugs and night vision equipment, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday.
Mr. DeSantis said of his continued efforts to keep the Sunshine State safe, especially in the midst of violent riots in Haiti, as Florida police officers arrested 25 people, possibly illegal immigrants from Haiti, entering Florida. He said he had prevented it.
“Just recently, within the last few weeks – and this will be made public later today – Florida Fish and Wildlife officers picked up 25 illegal immigrants, possibly from Haiti. “The vessel has been seized,” the governor announced.
“There were firearms on their boats and vessels. They had drugs. They were equipped with night vision devices and had very reckless boating operations that put other people at risk.” “Potential exposure,” he said, adding that the boat was intercepted “near Sebastian Inlet,” about 40 miles south of Port Canaveral.
“And those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation. I mean, our people have been doing this even before we expanded this and we’re going to continue to do it.” ” DeSantis said, touting the “incredible amount of resources that we have on display right now.”
DeSantis explained that while this has always been a priority for the agency, things are different now as the state is providing more resources and it’s a larger effort overall.
DeSantis went on to say that this issue of border security and illegal immigration should be the responsibility of the federal government, but the Biden administration continues to evade that mission, ultimately leaving the Coast Guard “understaffed.” He said that it has become.
“The Coast Guard is generally doing a good job, but they’re understaffed. They’re short on resources, so we’re filling that gap,” he said. “One of the differences now is that we’re at the border, and we have people coming from all over the world across our southern border,” DeSantis continued, adding that it’s actually better at this point. I explained that it would be easy. Potential illegal immigrants from Haiti will be able to fly to Mexico and enter the U.S. from the southern border once flights resume.
“We anticipate that once flights resume, we’ll probably see a lot of people arriving there.” [go] People trying to escape. “If they want to come to the United States, they’ll probably go to Mexico and then cross the border, knowing that Biden will just let everyone in,” he said.
