Hulk Hogan Day in Florida
On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared August 1st as “Hulk Hogan Day.” This decision was made following Hogan’s recent passing at his Clearwater residence.
DeSantis also instructed that flags at the state Capitol and in Pinellas County be flown at half-staff on the day of remembrance.
Hogan, originally from Augusta, Georgia, moved to Tampa as a child and began his wrestling career in 1977. He gained widespread fame after he joined WWE. Interestingly, he has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, first in 2005 and again in 2020 as part of the New World Order. DeSantis noted that Hogan’s larger-than-life personality played a significant role in his legacy.
Hogan died from a heart attack on July 24th at the age of 71. Reports from the Pinellas County Forensic Center revealed that he suffered from atrial fibrillation, a condition that leads to irregular heart rhythms, along with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a type of cancer affecting white blood cells.
His wife, Sky Daily Hogan, reflected on their struggles with health issues and expressed her belief that they would overcome them, saying, “I thought we still had more time.”
The news of his passing was met with a mix of sadness and celebration of his impactful career, which left a mark on the wrestling world and fans alike.
