Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remarked that the potential election win for Democratic mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani in New York would be more advantageous for the Republican Party than for the city itself.
This comment came after Mamdani retweeted a post from Elon Musk, claiming that X represents “the future of the Democratic Party.”
DeSantis stated that if Mamdani were to win, he would “by the time he takes office, be the most notable Democrat in America.” He suggested that this outcome could allow voters nationwide the chance to observe Mamdani’s leftist policies, asserting that it would be “good for Republicans” yet “bad for New York City.”
With Election Day approaching next week and early voting already underway in the city, the race is drawing significant attention.
Mamdani, who currently serves as a New York state congressman, is reportedly leading against former governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, alongside Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
Identifying as a “democratic socialist,” Mamdani supports a range of progressive initiatives, including free public transportation and government-operated grocery stores. His campaign platform states that as mayor, he would immediately freeze rents for stable tenants and focus on building necessary housing while working to lower rents.
