DeSantis officially announces his Senate pick for outgoing Senator Rubio’s seat

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) on Thursday formally announced the appointment of the state's attorney general, Ashley Moody, to fill Sen. Marco Rubio's seat, making her an easy candidate to become President-elect Donald Trump's secretary of state. It is expected that it will be approved.

A close ally of Mr. DeSantis, Mr. Moody has often been used as a legal tool by the governor to combat the Biden-Harris administration's destructive policies. After starting his career in the private sector, Moody became a federal prosecutor. Mr. Moody was elected circuit court judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County at the age of 31, making him the youngest judge in Florida.

Moody was DeSantis' attorney general throughout his tenure as governor. Whenever Mr. DeSantis travels around the state to announce legislative action at the state or federal level, Mr. Moody is often there to show support and explain what her office will do to make it happen. I explained what I was trying to do.

In Thursday's announcement, DeSantis said he chose Moody because she is a strong America First advocate in Florida and intends to bring that same energy to the Senate.

“This guy used to be a member of Congress, and he said to me, and he said to me, 'I don't understand why anyone would want that job.' I said to him, 'I kind of agree with the governor. I will.” … There's a lot of gridlock in Washington. And I thought about it further. And I thought that if everyone could have the same energy, the same love, and respect the founding principles of our country… If you have that kind of personality and say, “I don't want to work in Congress,'' we'll never change that culture,'' Moody said of taking the job.

Moody acknowledged that he probably wouldn't like the pace of the job, but said he was ready to fight for President Trump and America First policies from day one.
