DeSantis ‘won’t accept’ being Haley’s running mate ‘under any circumstances’

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said it was unacceptable “under any circumstances” for him to be fellow candidate Nikki Haley's running mate.

“Well, all I can say is, I'm not going to accept that under any circumstances,” DeSantis told Fox News' Neil Cavuto on Saturday. “You know, I'm running for president because I think we need someone who can win and get the job done.”

“I would rather finish my last two years as governor, 2025 and 2026, than be vice president,” he continued. “I don’t think it’s a very rewarding position, but I want to make an impact.”

Haley, a former U.N. ambassador, said in a recent interview that she hasn't ruled out running alongside DeSantis in the election, saying she “may consider” the Florida governor as vice president, and focusing on what's next. He added that He defeated former President Trump, the leading Republican candidate.

DeSantis pounced on rumors that President Trump may be considering adding Haley to his ticket.

“But I think this is interesting. She refuses to rule out whether she would be Donald Trump's running mate if Trump were to become the nominee.” I think that's important because she's really catering to a lot of Democratic donors, people who lean toward Democratic voters, a lot of people who are basically very anti-Trump, and who actually support Donald Trump.・They are donating large sums of money to the media to oppose Trump,” DeSantis claimed.

The Florida governor said Haley has positioned herself as an anti-Trump vessel for many people, but “I wouldn't rule out that possibility.”

“So the question is, why can't she give a clear answer? Yes, you accept it, or no, you don't. But instead, let the typical politician do the talking.” DeSantis said. “I said flatly, no, that's not what I'm aiming for, and we're doing everything we can to win it.”

DeSantis and Haley are scheduled to take the stage for a debate on Wednesday. January 10th, just before the Iowa caucuses.
