Pittsburgh Steelers safety Dession Elliott is expressing discontent regarding recent fines imposed on him by the NFL. He took to Instagram Stories to vent, stating, “count your f—days” alongside notes from the league.
The fines seem to stem from him using “unapproved black towels” during practice. Elliott captured a moment from this on social media, saying, “Your f—-day…I’m worried about what’s wrong. Let’s fix something that actually means something.” He tagged both the NFL and the NFL Players Association in his post.
According to the NFL Rule Book, specifically Rule 5, Section 4, Section 6 item (5), towels used in the arena must be licensed and approved by the league. Only white towels are permitted, which seems to be at the heart of the fines against Elliott. The rules also state that players cannot add personal messages or any graphics, and they may only use league-approved towels on the field.
The league notified Elliott of a $5,797 fine, which he has the option to contest. If he chooses not to pursue this, the amount will be deducted from his next game check.
At 28, Elliott recently signed a two-year extension worth $12.5 million, having shown promise with the team last season.
In a recent game in Dublin, Elliott made a significant impact, contributing to a 24-21 win over the Minnesota Vikings by forcing fumbles and recording six tackles.
