Details Surrounding James Handy’s Death Emerge
New information has come to light regarding the death of actor James Handy.
Handy, known for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” was reportedly assaulted at his girlfriend’s residence on June 3. Her son, identified as Michael Gledhill, has since been arrested and charged with his murder. According to a report from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, a verbal confrontation occurred on the front porch, escalating into a physical fight between Handy and Gledhill, as reported by TMZ.
During the altercation, Gledhill allegedly restrained Handy and then dragged him to the side of the house. He reportedly re-entered the house to retrieve what appeared to be a knife and returned to confront Handy again. The medical examiner’s report claims Gledhill then fatally stabbed Handy outside on the porch.
Onlookers found Handy lying on the ground with a serious stab wound to his torso. Gledhill is said to have called the police, stating, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
When officers arrived, Handy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Gledhill reportedly approached the officers and confessed to the crime.
Currently, Gledhill is being held at Van Nuys Jail with a bail set at $2 million. His mother, Wendy Gledhill, mentioned to TMZ earlier in June that her son has struggled with mental health issues and schizophrenia, claiming he had stopped taking his medication before the tragic incident. She noted that he had been exhibiting increased paranoia and had been prescribed medication following a diagnosis in July 2025.
As of now, authorities have not disclosed any potential motives for the attack, nor have they verified Gledhill’s reported mental health issues.
Handy was a seasoned actor, boasting nearly 150 credits throughout his career, including parts in “Jumanji,” “Arachnophobia,” and “Taps.”
