Devin Williams enjoyed a successful outing during Friday’s game against the Mets, especially in the top of the ninth inning of Decision 3 in the Wild Card Series, back when he was still with the Brewers.
After a rocky beginning with the Yankees, he stepped up as the setup man, taking charge against Alonso and helping secure the lead for the eighth time.
Before facing the Mets again at the stadium, Williams reflected on his performance from the previous game.
He admitted that contest held a special place in his heart.
“It was, but what it was,” he noted somewhat cryptically.
Continuing his impressive streak, Williams struck out Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo, showcasing his best showing since joining the Yankees. This marked his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance and his seventh in eight games since replacing Luke Weaver as a closer.
“Honestly, I’ve been working at this for a while,” he commented on his performance. “As long as I’m concerned, I’m doing okay. I haven’t allowed many runs in my last eight or nine outings. That’s how it should be.”
When asked if he felt he had shown resilience in bouncing back, he responded, “You could say that.”
Williams, who faced challenges early in his career with Milwaukee and beyond, remarked, “I’ve dealt with tougher situations. It’s just that there are more opinions here. I had to mute a few more people on Twitter.”
