De'Von Achane signs a four-year extension with the Dolphins valued at as much as $68 million

Miami is undergoing significant changes, but one consistent player is set to stay put for a while.

Running back Devon Ashen has reportedly signed a four-year contract extension valued at up to $68 million to continue with the Dolphins.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Ashen’s deal guarantees him $32 million, making him the third-highest paid running back in the league with an annual salary of $17 million.

This development quashes the trade speculation surrounding Ashen, who was poised to enter unrestricted free agency in 2027.

In April, Miami’s general manager John-Eric Sullivan mentioned that there won’t be a Pro Bowler slot available in 2025 and that teams would need to seek running backs elsewhere.

“He’s not for trade,” Sullivan stated to the media. “Things are looking good. We’ve had some encouraging talks recently and we’re on the right path. He’s crucial to our plans… We’ll get to where we need to go, in one form or another.”

Ashen, 24, had impressive performances in 2023 and 2024, racking up 1,707 rushing yards and 23 total touchdowns. Last season was a standout, as he accumulated 1,350 rushing yards, averaging an NFL-best 5.7 yards per carry, along with eight rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns—truly his best season in professional football.

The announcement of his extension follows closely after the Jets’ decision to extend running back Breece Hall with a three-year, $45.75 million contract that includes $29 million guaranteed.

Miami is hopeful for an improved season after finishing 7-10 last year, which led to head coach Mike McDaniel’s dismissal, alongside the departures of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the contentious wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Now, with the hiring of former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and the acquisition of former Green Bay quarterback Malik Willis on a three-year, $67.5 million contract, they seem to be positioning for a new chapter.
