Devonta Lee, former LSU football receiver, has passed away at 26.

DeVonta Lee, a former LSU receiver and part of the 2019 national championship team, has passed away at age 26, as announced by his team on Thursday. Details about the circumstances of his death are not yet clear. He also played for Louisiana Tech during his college career.

The Louisiana Tech football program expressed their sorrow on social media, stating, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Bulldogs wide receiver DeVonta Lee. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time. He will forever be remembered as a member of the Bulldog family.”

LSU also shared their condolences, saying, “The LSU football family is mourning the loss of former Tiger DeVonta Lee. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and teammates.”

Following the 2022 season, Lee had complained of severe back pain and was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of cancer. After multiple surgeries and treatments, he was later declared cancer-free.

Lee’s mother, Lacrecia Brown, shared with a local news station that he was battling cancer at the time of his death. She described him as a fighter who loved everyone, stating, “He was a good boy who would do anything for anyone. He loved soccer and always tried his best in everything he did. He exercised daily and was a dedicated player, never giving up.”

A Louisiana native, Lee played in 37 college football games over five seasons. During his time at LSU, he made nine receptions for 112 yards and scored one touchdown. Over two seasons with Louisiana Tech, he recorded two catches for 17 yards in three games.
