The King Center announced Monday that Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, has died.
King, 62, died after a “courageous battle with prostate cancer,” according to the King Center.
Leah Weber King, King's wife of 11 years, said in a written statement that her husband “gently transitioned” in his sleep at their California home.
“He did everything in his power to fight this terrible disease to the very end,” Weber-King said. “As with all challenges in his life, he met this hurdle with courage and strength.”

Dr. King was born in Atlanta in 1961. Dr. King was named after Dexter Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as the first pastor.
He was only 7 years old when his father was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.
