Operation Metro Surge: DHS Arrests Criminal Immigrants in Minneapolis
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced the arrest of at least 12 individuals deemed to be criminal illegal immigrants during a campaign known as Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis. These include serious offenders such as child sex offenders, domestic abusers, and violent gang members.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has highlighted individuals from a “worst of the worst” list, which features five from Somalia, six from Mexico, and one from El Salvador. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the issue, stating that sanctuary policies have enabled dangerous individuals to walk freely among the public.
She expressed that while ICE agents are putting their lives at risk to ensure safety in Minnesota, elected officials are not taking appropriate action. Regardless of where they are, she asserted that ICE will pursue and deport all criminal illegal aliens.
Among the arrests was Abdulkadir Sharif Abdi, a Somali national identified as a former member of the Gangster Disciples and currently aligned with the Vice Lord Nation. His criminal record includes offenses like fraud and several vehicle thefts. Other Somali detainees, Sahar Osman Sidan and Muktar Mohamed Ali, were also arrested for serious charges, including sexual offenses involving minors.
Two Mexicans arrested during this operation had felony records for alien smuggling and aggravated assault. The operation began on December 1.
Additionally, the Justice Department has filed federal charges against another individual, Abdimahat Bir Mohamed, accused of kidnapping and raping a woman he met online. He had previously been convicted of two sexual assault cases but received no prison time due to a plea deal.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stressed that this situation highlights the dangers posed by lenient policies, asserting that if local authorities fail to protect citizens, the federal government will step in.
President Trump criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar, calling her and Somali immigrants “trash,” and implied that their complaints about the U.S. were unwarranted. Omar responded to these comments by labeling Trump’s focus on her as “creepy.”
In her statement, she highlighted the contributions of Somali-Americans to the nation and stated they would not be intimidated. This situation continues to unfold, with tensions rising between local authorities and the federal government over immigration policies.
