HSI Arrests Violent Individuals During Protests in Los Angeles
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a video capturing the arrest of what they described as a “violent mob” in Los Angeles. The footage shows two Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) vehicles blocking a white sedan, leading to the arrest of an individual wielding a firearm.
DHS emphasized that this operation was not random; it aimed to apprehend a group involved in violent actions, specifically highlighting a case where a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was punched. The reported target, Christian Damien Cerno Camacho, attempted to flee but was ultimately arrested.
In a statement, DHS noted the alarming surge in violence against their officers, citing a 413% increase in assaults amidst their law enforcement efforts. Secretary Kristi Noem assured that their operations will persist despite opposition, warning that any attacks on police officers would lead to severe consequences.
The protests intensified when ICE agents conducted a targeted operation against illegal immigrants in the city. This unrest has resulted in nearly 45 arrests at various locations, including retail stores and a donut shop.
Among those detained was Cuong Chanh Phan, a 49-year-old from Vietnam, who has a prior conviction for second-degree murder. The incidents underscored the ongoing conflict surrounding immigration enforcement actions, fueling further demonstrations in the area.
Additionally, the FBI has launched a search for Elpidio Reina, who allegedly assaulted a federal officer during one of the protests by throwing a rock, injuring officials and damaging government vehicles. There are numerous layers to this story, with ongoing investigations and community reactions continuing to unfold.
