Justice Department Investigates Mamdani Over Growing Concerns of Anti-Semitism

The Justice Department has initiated an investigation into New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani amidst claims of biased treatment towards Jewish residents. Concerns about rising anti-Semitism have been highlighted, along with a letter from the Department of Justice seeking clarification.

In addition to this, the Department of Homeland Security is looking into a nonprofit linked to Mayor Mamdani. Reports suggest it might have provided assistance to Palestinian organizations that are under U.S. sanctions, as reported by the New York Post.

Authorities are examining a British-based entity named PFF, which reportedly has around $100 million aimed at supporting anti-Israel initiatives. There are suggestions that Mamdani may have contributed funds to Al-Haq, a Palestinian organization that the U.S. has sanctioned.

A source, familiar with the operation, mentioned that a new fund has been established by Arabs from the United States, Britain, and Australia to counter Israel’s actions.

Basema Youssef has been described as a key figure in PFF’s fundraising efforts. She has been a longtime supporter of Mamdani and is noted as a significant Democratic donor currently residing in London.

Youssef’s online presence includes various statements critical of Israel, accusing it of “war crimes” funded by American taxpayers.

PFF was founded with financial backing from two affluent benefactors, Basil Kunibi, an Austin-based investment executive, and Yasser Shahin, a motorsports entrepreneur of Palestinian descent.

UK company records affirm Shahin’s involvement in PFF, which also has a recognized nonprofit branch based in Delaware.

Individuals well-acquainted with PFF’s operations characterized the organization as financially robust and strategically oriented toward promoting anti-Israel narratives and supporting pro-Palestinian activists.

The organization’s website describes PFF as a substantial and well-resourced foundation committed to justice and nonviolence, claiming partnerships with entities capable of achieving aligned goals.

The Department of Homeland Security has not provided immediate comments regarding the investigation. A spokesperson mentioned that they refrain from discussing specific investigations or their potential outcomes.

The New York Post also noted that the ongoing investigation by DHS has not pointed to any particular criminal activities.
