DHS: More than 2.5 Million Unauthorized Immigrants Departed from the U.S. Last Year

Illegal Immigrant Exits Surge Under Trump Administration

In a noteworthy development, over 2.5 million undocumented immigrants have departed the United States in the last year, which includes more than 605,000 deportations since President Donald Trump began his term in January. Records from the Department of Homeland Security reveal that nearly 1.9 million of these immigrants opted for voluntary deportation.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of homeland security, commented on the trend: “Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now. They know that if they don’t, we’ll find them, arrest them, and they’ll never come back.”

Launch of ‘Project Homecoming’

A recent initiative, dubbed ‘Project Homecoming,’ started with the first flight carrying 64 immigrants who accepted a voluntary deportation payment of $1,000.

The Department of Homeland Security noted that a decrease in the undocumented population has positively impacted public services and boosted local job opportunities. Since January, a wide-ranging deportation campaign specifically targeting those with criminal records has been underway.

Furthermore, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is encouraging those illegally in the U.S. to utilize a mobile app that offers a complimentary return ticket and a $1,000 incentive for their return to their home countries.

Targeting Criminal Immigrants

Additionally, DHS has taken steps to announce a “Worst of the Worst” webpage, detailing those criminally implicated immigrants detained during enforcement operations. This initiative has faced opposition from Democratic leaders and local officials, who argue that it infringes on the civil rights of both Americans and immigrants.

This week, President Trump introduced the Trump Gold Card, which purportedly expedites the process for individuals and businesses to obtain U.S. residency. “The US Government Trump Gold Card is here today!” he shared on Truth Social. “A direct path to citizenship for all qualified and vetted people. It’s so exciting!”

This card, which is available for purchase, starts at $1 million. It seemingly offers a new route for some amidst the ongoing immigration enforcement landscape.
