Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Fox News that he has no intention of resigning even if he is impeached.
Mayorkas, 64, made the comments to Fox News’ Matt Finn during a security press conference in Las Vegas ahead of this Sunday’s Super Bowl.
“I am happy to answer again. The allegations are baseless and I am focused on the work that brought me to Las Vegas today,” Mayorkas said in a statement.

The comments came after House Republicans’ push to impeach the DHS secretary over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border failed.
Several Republicans refused to follow the party’s plan, forcing the party to shelve its priorities.

Tuesday’s surprising roll call fell one vote short of impeaching Mayorkas, stalling Republican efforts to punish the Biden administration over its handling of the U.S.-Mexico border.
As Democrats rallied around the charges, Republicans needed nearly every vote in their narrow majority to approve articles of impeachment.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is expected to face an impeachment vote in the House.
House Speaker Mike Johnson’s press secretary, Raj Shah, said it was his “full intention” to revisit the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas “if there is a vote to pass them.”
But the next steps are unclear. In the end, three Republicans voted against impeachment, and a fourth Republican switched votes to allow the impeachment bill to be reconsidered. The final score was 214-216.

It is the first time a Cabinet secretary has faced impeachment since 1876, and the first time a sitting secretary has faced impeachment — 148 years ago, when Secretary of War William Belknap resigned just before the vote.
