DHS Secretary Kristi Noem deploys additional federal agents to Minnesota

Heightened Tensions in Minnesota Following Fatal Shooting

Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, announced on Sunday that the government will deploy additional federal personnel to Minnesota to safeguard immigration agents and maintain enforcement activities amid rising tensions stemming from the shooting of a U.S. citizen.

Noem mentioned during her appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, that DHS intends to send hundreds of additional personnel to Minneapolis over the weekend to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents in their operations “safely.”

She stated, “When there are violent acts against law enforcement, and when our work is disrupted, that becomes a crime, and we will ensure accountability.” This was in reference to confrontations between certain protesters and federal agents outside an ICE facility in Minneapolis and the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building over the past weekend.

The protests have extended to other cities, such as Los Angeles, Portland, and New York, following the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. According to DHS, she “used a deadly weapon in a vehicle” and “attempted to run over a law enforcement officer.”

The video of the incident has sparked political controversy, with some arguing it supports the government’s assertion that agents acted in self-defense. Others, however, feel it raises questions about the use of force by ICE officials.

This shooting is currently subject to a federal investigation.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed his thoughts in an editorial published in The New York Times, stating the Trump administration has pushed a “false narrative” concerning the shooting and unfairly demonized Good.

Frey remarked, “The chaos that ICE and the Trump administration have brought to Minneapolis has made this tragedy sadly predictable.” He noted, “I have seen several videos from various angles, and it’s apparent that Ms. Good, a mother of three, was not attacking the investigators but was trying to leave the area.”

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shared with Fox News Digital that since the commencement of Operation MetroSurge, DHS law enforcement has apprehended over 1,500 individuals throughout Minnesota, which includes those suspected of murder, child exploitation, sexual assault, and gang affiliations.

McLaughlin emphasized, “Our law enforcement professionals take significant risks daily to apprehend some of the most dangerous criminals and undocumented individuals in American society. We cannot allow the mob to hinder our efforts to restore safety in Minnesota, something that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey have failed to address.”
