The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reaffirmed its position to return to foundational media outlets, rejecting the politically correct terminology “undocumented” for illegal aliens residing in the US.
In a post on Wednesday, DHS pointed out various headlines from foundational sources, including stories like “Undocumented immigrants who remain jailed following a fatal drunk driving incident” and “11 undocumented immigrants arrested in Seymour.”
DHS remarked, “An ‘undocumented immigrant’ is similar to ‘them/them,’” referencing the left’s preference for certain pronouns, which they argue distorts reality.
“DHS is not in favor of using the left’s open-border terminology. The term ‘alien’ is a precise legal designation we use. ‘Illegal’ accurately describes someone who breaks the law,” DHS added. “Next, they’ll be referring to a robbery as an undocumented visit.”
This statement highlights significant policy shifts under the Biden administration, which has been perceived as more lenient regarding border control and illegal immigration. In contrast, since the implementation of a stricter deportation policy by former President Donald Trump, the number of illegal immigrants in the country has decreased by 1.6 million over six months.
As noted by Breitbart News:
In an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data, researchers Stephen Camarota and Karen Zeygler from CIS found that between January and July, the foreign-born population shrank by an unprecedented 2.2 million under Trump’s administration.
“Analysis of Current Population Survey data shows that the foreign-born population, encompassing all ages both in and out of the workforce, decreased by 2.2 million during that period,” they noted.
Trump has also directed his administration to conduct a new census that will exclude illegal immigrants from its counts.
“The Commerce Department has tasked us with starting a new, accurate census based on updated information, notably from the 2024 presidential election,” Trump wrote on August 7.
“Individuals who are illegal in our country will not be included in the census. Thanks for your attention to this matter!” he concluded.
