Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo changes approach towards umpires during intense ejection outburst

Diamondbacks Manager Ejected Amid Controversy

During the Diamondbacks’ 8-7 win over the Giants, manager Torey Lovullo found himself embroiled in controversy. In the eighth inning, he expressed frustration after an umpire ruled a Giants runner safe due to interference, without providing a clear explanation for the call at Oracle Park.

His irritation escalated, and before long, the umpire officially ejected him from the game, which only heightened Lovullo’s anger. In a moment that felt almost theatrical, he began to mimic the actions of the umpire, pointing at his crew while continuing to voice his displeasure.

After the game, Lovullo acknowledged the incident, stating, “I don’t do that often. I lost my cool, and I felt it was unacceptable.” At that moment, Arizona was holding an 8-6 lead with two outs.

Even with Lovullo’s departure, the Diamondbacks managed to secure the win. Nevertheless, the manager felt the call was questionable. “It didn’t happen in the heat of the moment,” he commented. “It seemed like they were trying to cover something up, but interference was called regardless.” He expressed confusion over how the umpire could witness everything happening on the field but missed the

most critical details.

This marked the 22nd time Lovullo has been ejected from a major league game. His emotional responses might put him on par with Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who is known for his own dramatic displays, such as drawing lines in the dirt after disagreeing with umpire decisions.
