Fauci’s Diary Unveils Media Connections
Dr. Anthony Fauci has shared insights into his relationships with various media figures through a series of diary entries that have raised eyebrows. These entries reveal a rather intimate rapport between the former White House coronavirus adviser and the press.
Released by Rand Paul, the Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman, Fauci’s diary details his involvement in the COVID-19 pandemic through conversations with President Donald Trump, governors, world leaders, and various media appearances. Among the surprising revelations, it seems Fauci developed close friendships with members of the liberal media responsible for covering the crisis.
Interestingly, CNN anchor Jake Tapper is noted as Fauci’s closest media ally, appearing 41 times in the diary.
According to the journal, Tapper had sent texts to Fauci, occasionally poking fun at rival cable news hosts and other doctors. He even checked in on Fauci after one of his show appearances sparked anger among Trump supporters. Fauci wrote on April 13, 2020, “Jake wanted to make sure the interview wouldn’t cause me any problems.”
By July 2020, Fauci reflected positively on his friendship with Tapper, noting, “We had dinner at Jake and Jen Tapper’s house in Washington, D.C., a wonderful couple. We struck up a friendship.” Later that month, Fauci mentioned asking Tapper questions during an interview, although it seemed to annoy the CNN host as it woke Fauci up early one morning.
Surprisingly, a few months later, Fauci invited Tapper over for dinner again, indicating the annoyance hadn’t affected their relationship. Fauci wrote on October 23, 2020, “Dinner at home with Jake and Jennifer Tapper. Relaxed and had a great time. Jake clearly believes President Trump is completely insane.”
Furthermore, in April 2021, CNN’s Dana Bash reached out to support Fauci after a heated hearing, texting, “I just saw the whole thing, Jordan. Again, you’re a better person than me.” She mentioned her colleagues had their biases, reflecting the political tone surrounding the pandemic at the time.
Interestingly, during a major Fourth of July broadcast, Andrea Mitchell shared her concerns with Fauci about his media access, apologizing for not featuring him on her show due to pre-booked guests. Fauci reported, “I told her that I was concerned that she was keeping me off the air.”
Additionally, Fauci revealed interactions with NBC News host Chuck Todd, where they discussed media strategies, and even received praise from George Stephanopoulos following an interview on “Good Morning America” for how he handled Trump’s tweets.
Fauci’s diary also mentions arranging appearances for Dr. Jonathan LaPook, CBS News’ chief medical correspondent, indicating a desire to maintain influence and connections in the media landscape.
As of now, representatives for NBC, ABC, and CBS have not responded to inquiries regarding the diary, and CNN has chosen not to comment.
