Dick Van Dyke Jokes About Aging

Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke, who is 99, attended a charity event with his wife, Arlene Silver, 54, in Malibu, California. They chatted about his upcoming milestone birthday on December 13th.

“Yes, I won’t officially be 100 until December,” Van Dyke said, adding with a grin, “Two months, just two months.”

He continued later with a playful remark, saying, “It would be interesting if it wasn’t successful.”

As the event went on, Van Dyke reflected, “I sometimes brag about living to 100, but honestly, if I’d known, I might have taken better care of myself.” He also humorously claimed, “I did nothing right.”

Van Dyke and Silver, who tied the knot in 2012, were at the Vandy High Tee event, aimed at raising funds for the Van Dyke Foundation for the Arts and the Dick Van Dyke Museum. During the gathering, the “Mary Poppins” star entertained the crowd by singing “Happy Birthday” to some young fans, as well as theme songs from “Chiki Chiki Bang Bang” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”

Despite his age, Van Dyke maintains an active lifestyle, visiting the gym several times a week. He mentioned in a podcast earlier this year, “Someone once asked about my age and health. I’ve exercised three days a week for a long time.”

However, concerns about his health arose in June when he left a comedy event early. Silver shared that her husband was having “a bad day,” noting that, “When you’re 99 and a half, you have good and bad days.”

Still, during another Vandy event in April, Van Dyke insisted he has no plans to slow down. “I’m a ham. I love it. I get an energy boost from the audience,” he expressed enthusiastically.
