Colbert Questions Trump’s Epstein Bill Signing
On Thursday, Stephen Colbert raised eyebrows by hinting that President Donald Trump might not have signed the bill related to the Epstein file release in front of cameras.
“I can’t say for sure he personally signed it. Maybe he just used a machine to do it,” Colbert mused during an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This comment seemed to reference former President Joe Biden, whose use of automated signatures has come under some scrutiny lately.
Colbert elaborated, saying, “He signed the bill after the White House declared a photo lid, meaning there wouldn’t be any camera opportunities.” He mentioned various things Trump has signed both on and off camera, joking that Trump “avoids cameras like the Pillsbury Doughboy avoids nudity.”
In addition, Colbert mocked Trump’s social media platform, “Truth Social,” by drawing a comparison to Ted Kaczynski’s manifesto. He remarked, “It’s just more evidence that the files will taint President Trump’s extensive dossier. Last night, he attempted to blame Democrats for the Unabomber’s full manifesto being online.” Colbert playfully imagined receiving such information as a text message.
Trump’s post included a message about having requested House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune to ensure the bill passed. He claimed that, because of this request, the vote was nearly unanimous.
Colbert quipped, “So, in a way, he won. It reminds me of Julius Caesar’s last words, ‘Great job, Brute,'” making a joke about Trump’s near-assassination experiences last year.
Continuing, Colbert noted that the U.S. Department of Justice has “30 days to release any information” about the Epstein files. He added, “Soon, all documents in Epstein’s file will be accessible for viewing,” although he expressed skepticism about whether they would ever actually be made public. “And if you believe that, Donald Trump has the East Wing he wants to sell you,” he concluded.
