Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia’s Challenges

Well, it seems there’s a bit of speculation about Diego Pavia, the Vanderbilt quarterback. Officially, he’s listed as 6 feet and 207 pounds. However, during practice for the Senior Bowl, his actual height came in at about 5 feet 9 and 7/8 inches, and his weight was noted at 198 pounds.

This Saturday, the Senior Bowl will showcase some of the top senior players for NFL scouts and coaches, gearing up for the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine scheduled in Indianapolis from February 26 to March 1.

Pavia recently shared with reporters, “My height has been in question all my life. I think all the NFL really cares about is whether you can win games. I see myself as a winner.” That confidence could really be something, especially since he led Vanderbilt to a commendable 10-3 record this past season, throwing for 3,539 yards with 29 touchdowns, and rushing for another 862 yards along with 10 touchdowns.

At the Heisman trophy ceremony in December, Pavia certainly looked shorter compared to his fellow finalists, like Jeremiah Love of Notre Dame and Julian Sane from Ohio State, both of whom were listed at 6 feet or taller. It’s interesting, really, because despite his strong performance, Pavia ended up finishing second in the Heisman voting behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who stands a notable 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Now, it’s uncertain if Pavia’s height will affect his draft prospects. His reactions following the Heisman result might raise a few eyebrows among NFL teams. After the awards, he shared a rather spirited message on social media, hinting at his strong feelings about the outcome, even reposting commentary from Skip Bayless that praised his on-field performance but noted that his attitude may have put some voters off.

An incident at a club later that night, where he was spotted with a sign that read “Fk Indiana,” also caught attention. While this might have seemed a bit over the top, Pavia later apologized online, expressing regret about how he handled his emotions during that time.

By the way, Pavia will be turning 24 soon on February 16. He has quite the journey behind him, having spent two years at New Mexico State before making the switch to Vanderbilt ahead of the 2024 season. Plus, he started his education at the New Mexico Military Academy, so there’s a lot to his backstory!
